TERMINAL NEIGE - REFUGE DU MONTENVERS, CHAMONIX WILL WELCOME GUESTS FOR ITS FIRST WINTER SEASON

Terminal Neige - Refuge du Montenvers, a remote new alpine refuge hotel from Maisons & Hotels Sibuet’s Terminal Neige brand, will welcome guests for its first winter season this year following the complete renovation of the original Montenvers refuge built in 1880 to accommodate the first mountaineers who visited the world-famous Mer de Glace glacier.

November 10thCHAMONIX, FRANCE

Located at 6,725ft above sea level, on the Mont-Blanc mountain range, the refuge occupies a legendary site. It has drawn climbers from all around the world with its beauty and flawless vistas since it was first discovered and named by William Windham in 1741, and whilst retaining the original charm and authenticity of the refuge, now the modern-day adventurer can find the ultimate stop-off for his winter itinerary. A one or two night stay at Terminal Neige Refuge is the perfect add-on to a wider ski itinerary in nearby Chamonix or Megève. The glacier covers over 7km and has been used many times as a filming location, most famously for “Frankenstein”, and the roll call of famous visitors throughout the years include Lord Byron, Alexandre Dumas, Goethe, Marie Louise of Austria and Victor Hugo. The leisurely adventurer can reach the remote location from Chamonix on the Montenvers railway and enjoy the scenic route on the famous little red train, which weaves through the pine forests right up to the hotel. The more adventurous hikers, climbers or even confident off-piste skiers can access Montenvers either by the Aiguille du Midi platform, the Grand Monets ski or climbing and crossing the Mer de Glace to reach the staircase and the cable car to the train station.

Terminal Neige Refuge is the second hotel to open in a series of more accessible, design-led contemporary alpine hotels from Maisons & Hotels Sibuet’s new alpine label. The Terminal Neige hotels target the modern-day adventurer, looking for stylish surroundings, an informal atmosphere and friendly staff with technical expertise. This innovative new hotel concept is the brainchild of Nicolas and Marie Sibuet, the second generation of the Sibuet family and follows the launch of Terminal Neige Totem hotel in the French ski resort of Flaine in December 2015.

Guests can choose from 12 double rooms with views of the glacier, two suites, five spacious family rooms, and one dormitory under the eaves (sleeping up to 10 people in a cosy beds and bunks) that are ideal for a weekend getaway with family or friends. The design of the new interiors is inspired by the hotel’s alpine surroundings using wood, leather and woolen fabrics to give it a cosy atmosphere. The built-in dark wooden furniture gives it a traditional rustic mountain feel in keeping with the natural setting. The hotel’s Restaurant Montenvers features an open-plan kitchen, where guests can watch traditional Savoyard meals being prepared by the chefs. At the heart of the hotel is the welcoming bar and bibliotheque with a striking fireplace – a great place to enjoy a drink and share stories after an action-packed day of mountain activities.

How to Access: Via The Montenvers Station in Chamonix (20mins round trip).  Expert skiers in the winter can access via the platform of the Aiguille du Midi or the Grands Monets ski or by rappelling and crossing the Mer de Glace to reach the 500 step staircase and access the cable car that leads to the train station (this route is only recommended for expert skiers with a private guide)

Rates at Refuge du Montenvers are on a half board basis and start from 90EUR per night for a dormitory, and from 160EUR per night for a double room based on two sharing. A round trip ticket on the Montenvers train costs 31.50EUR

SIBBJÄNS ARRIVES ON GOTLAND, SWEDEN

SIBBJÄNS ARRIVES ON GOTLAND, SWEDEN

A REGENERATIVE FARM STAY SHAPED BY SEASONS, FRIENDSHIP AND CRAFTSMANSHIP

Sweden

Sibbjäns began quietly, the combined dream of Jonas Nordlander and Sanna Rönn, who with close friends and many meaningful couples Pontus and Kina Zeidler share a life between Stockholm and Gotland. Over the past four years, they have steadily transformed this former horse farm into a regenerative stay that feels singular to anywhere else in Scandinavia.

After a soft opening in 2025 for friends and family, the farm stay now enters 2026 as its first full season, opening more intentionally to a like-minded global community drawn to nature, food, and thoughtful design.

A PLACE TO REST

22 individually designed rooms sit across the Hotel and ‘The Bunkhouse,’ each named after important women in the family and among their friends. Adorned with classic Scandi touches of sheepskin throws, limewashed walls, soft palettes, and contemporary art, the spaces are designed for comfort.

Buildings are framed by wildflowers and constructed using traditional methods, much of the work completed by hand, with local craftsmanship central to the process. Architect Maja Berg has been a key contributor, working alongside Erik Larsson, a Master of Gotlandic Craft Heritage, who built some of the original buildings himself and continues to pass on traditional building knowledge to the next generation.

THE KITCHEN FOLLOWS THE FARM

At the heart of Sibbjäns is a working farm home to hens, Mangalitza pigs, horses, and sheep, with agriculture guiding both the kitchen and the guest experience.

In the gardens, lead gardener and local Karin Winarve brings a quiet hand to what thrives here across meadows, vegetable beds, and fruit-growing plots. Produce is grown on-site and harvested seasonally, forming the backbone of a true farm-to-table approach—one that pauses entirely during the winter months when the land rests.

EXPERIENCES & ‘VIKING WELLNESS’

New for the 2026 season, wellbeing at Sibbjäns is restorative rather than prescriptive. Inspired by Nordic traditions and the physicality of outdoor life, the evolving wellness offering includes:

  • A hand-built yoga barn

  • A wood-fired sauna

  • An outdoor gym

  • Recreational spaces

  • The beginnings of what will become one of the world’s most beautiful tennis courts.

The surrounding landscape invites guests to engage with nature on its own terms, from cycling or horse riding across open farmland to kitesurfing along Gotland’s windswept coastline (widely regarded as one of the finest spots in Europe for the sport). This is ‘Viking wellness’ in spirit—elemental, grounding, and quietly transformative.

SWEDEN’S ‘SUNSHINE ISLAND’

Gotland is Sweden’s sunniest destination, known for its distinctive light, limestone landscapes, and strong ‘right to roam’ ethos. Open from Easter through to Christmas and closed entirely during the dark winter months, Sibbjäns follows the natural calendar rather than resisting it.

Reaching it is part of the journey:

  • A short flight from Stockholm to the island’s capital of Visby, followed by a drive across the island.

  • A ferry crossing that reinforces the sense of arrival somewhere distinct and deliberately unhurried.

  • For those preferring a more direct approach, arrival by helicopter is also possible.

At its core, Sibbjäns remains a place for friends old and new built slowly, grounded in nature, and designed to endure.
