LIMA EMERGES AS THE WORLD'S NEW CULINARY CAPITAL

July 7thPeru

Lima has officially emerged as the world’s new culinary capital following last week’s unveiling of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants for 2025. With four restaurants securing coveted positions in the prestigious Top 50 list, Peru’s capital now leads the global dining scene, significantly outperforming traditional culinary powerhouses including London, which features two restaurants in the Top 50 and New York City with just one restaurant listed.
This triumph was crowned by Maido’s spectacular ascent from No.5 to claim the coveted No.1 position as The World’s Best Restaurant 2025. Chef Mitsuharu ‘Micha’ Tsumura’s celebrated Nikkei restaurant exemplifies Lima’s unique culinary identity, masterfully blending meticulous Japanese technique with vibrant Peruvian ingredients.

Lima’s dominance signals a fundamental shift in global gastronomy. The city’s culinary scene draws from over 500 years of cultural fusion, where indigenous Incan traditions meet Japanese precision, Spanish colonial influences blend with African heritage, and Chinese techniques create an entirely unprecedented gastronomic landscape.

This cultural convergence has positioned Lima not merely as a dining destination, but as the epicentre of culinary innovation, where traditional techniques are reimagined through contemporary creativity.

For discerning travellers seeking to explore Lima’s gastronomic renaissance, Andean’s two distinctive properties in the lively Miraflores offer unparalleled access to the city’s culinary heartbeat. One of Lima’s liveliest districts, Miraflores is a neighbourhood steeped in history and heritage, whilst also housing some of the world’s top-ranked restaurants, including Maido. A true crossroads of tradition and modernity, Miraflores perfectly encapsulates Peru’s rich cultural and geographic diversity.

Both of Andean’s properties place guests at the centre of Lima and Miraflores’ culinary transformation, providing insider access to artisan eateries, coastal markets, and the world-class restaurants that have elevated Lima to global culinary prominence.
Only a short walk away from the ocean’s edge, Fausto is housed in a beautifully preserved 1920s neoclassical residence that seamlessly merges traditional architecture with locally curated design, art, and decor. With five carefully curated rooms, a rooftop terrace, and communal spaces designed for cultural connection, Fausto serves as a gateway to Lima’s creative pulse. Atemporal, a meticulously restored 1940s Peruvian Tudor house, provides a serene and intimate escape. With six thoughtfully designed rooms blending original architecture with modern comforts, Atemporal  is located in a quiet neighbourhood at a walking distance from Lima’s chic hub.
