NANTUCKET ISLAND – A BEAUTIFULLY REMOTE, WINDSWEPT ISLAND FULL OF CHRISTMAS TRADITION
The island of Nantucket, located off the coast of Massachusetts and one of America’s best-kept secrets is transformed at Christmas into a winter wonderland. The Nantucket Christmas Stroll, one of the most celebrated events in the New England calendar, kicks off the festive season on 1st December when the town is adorned with an abundance of seven-foot Christmas trees. Founded in 1973, what began as a promotional stunt to encourage locals to shop in Nantucket itself instead of nearby Cape Cod, has now become a festive institution. Enjoy live entertainment, sing along with Christmas carolers and witness the Nantucket Town Crier bedecked in his finery. The world-famous Nantucket Whaling Museum welcomes its month-long annual Festival of Trees, showcasing more than 80 Christmas trees dressed up in vibrant and unique decorations. Throughout the month of December the island’s hotels and restaurants also come alive with festivities including Christmas movie screenings, mulled wine tasting and cooking making classes. New for this year, The White Elephant – which sits on the waterfront of Nantucket’s harbour – will launch a new special three-night ‘Holiday Stroll’ package as well as a series of unique spa treatments including cranberry body wraps and warm spice massages using cinnamon clove essential oil. Guests can also sample Red Sangria from the local Nantucket vineyards. Jared Coffin House, a charming three-storey redbrick just off Main Street and perfectly positioned for exploring the boutique shops, will once again be decorated from head to toe in traditional decorations and light up the street with reds, greens and golds. The hotel will also play host to Father Christmas following his annual arrival to Nantucket via the Coast Guard Boat.
