EDEN ROCK - ST BARTHS TRANSFORMED - REOPENING DECEMBER 2018

Eden Rock - St Barths, the iconic Caribbean property in the Oetker Collection portfolio of masterpiece hotels, will undergo a design transformation ahead of its December 2018 reopening. The design will reflect the unique heritage and spirit of the much-loved hotel, whilst adding a new style and additional facilities to the mix.

With its spectacular location in St Jean Bay, perched on a rocky promontory and surrounded by white sandy beaches and clear blue sea, Eden Rock – St Barths has been a byword for stylish hospitality since the 1950s.  ‘The original’ Caribbean property in the Oetker Collection will now rebuild and renovate, to strengthen existing structures and inject a new lease of life into its 34 rooms, suites and restaurant, with new furnishings, fabrics and interiors throughout. Owners David and Jane Matthews will oversee the renovations and decoration throughout much of the property, ensuring the personal touch and family spirit that Eden Rock-St Barths is so well known for, lives on.

The hotel will collaborate with Martin Brudnizki Design Studio – the acclaimed interior architecture and design practice – to redesign the Sand Bar, Villa Nina and Villa Rockstar. Sand Bar – the main restaurant, bar and lounge – will channel a colonial vibe with laidback beach styling. Clean lines will be complemented by pops of pattern and colour blocking, to create a space with an elegant, fresh finish. Sand Bar’s much-loved menu by Jean-Georges Vongericthen will remain. Ultraluxe Villa Nina will be remodeled entirely, with Villa Nina adopting a tropical-inspired aesthetic, with bold artwork and contrasting materials, including patterned linen and statement onyx. A fresh colour palette of corals and greens will imbue a relaxed ambience, enhancing the overall stylish look of this two-bedroom villa. Three further cottages will also be redesigned, inspired by the surrounding beach landscape utilising natural wood and introducing a homely feel through curated book collections and works of art.

Fabrice Moizan, General Manager of Eden Rock – St Barths, comments: It was important for us to keep the unique spirit and vibe that has always been part of Eden Rock and St Barths. The internationally-acclaimed Martin Brudnizki Design Studio has really understood our DNA, and the redesigned spaces will reflect both our soul and the new Eden Rock.”

Since the hurricanes late last year, St Barths has received unprecedented support from local people, loyal hotel guests and visitors who have all helped to rebuild and restore the island to its original beauty. The island recovered quickly with many restaurants reopening and the iconic harbour coming back to life. The renovation of Eden Rock – St Barths will ensure the hotel maintains its long-standing position as one of the very finest resort destinations in the world, with its family-owned charm and Oetker Collection flair wholly intact, and confirm its unique place in the history of this very special island.
