THE CROWN JEWEL OF THE AMALFI COAST, BORGO SANTANDREA REOPENS ITS DOORS FOR THE 2023 SEASON

May 11thITALY

Perched on a cliffside 90 metres above sea level, overlooking the centuries-old fishing village of Conca dei Marini in the heart of the Amalfi Coast, Borgo Santandrea has reopened its doors for the 2023 season. Whether it be visiting Naples and Pompeii to hike unexplored paths, or sailing to Positano, Capri, or Ischia on one of the hotel’s private boats, Borgo Santandrea is the perfect base from which to explore all that the celebrated coastline has to offer. Travellers visiting this season will encounter four brand-new rooms – including three suites – in addition to a brand-new boutique, the Marinella Beach Club, and the new look La Libreria Mare restaurant, which is moving down to the water’s edge.

Three brand-new suites and one room have joined the hotel’s existing cast of 29 rooms and 16 suites. Borgo Santandrea is a true masterpiece in mid-century design fused with inimitable Mediterranean style, giving prominence to local Amalfi and Campania craftmanship. Inspired by the building’s origins in the 1960s, the owners set out to create a property that would evoke the spirit of the sixties in every detail, while also creating an expression of accessible and sustainable architecture. Paying homage to the acclaimed Italian designer, Gio Ponti’s vision, and by the ancestral geometry found in nearby Pompeii and Herculaneum, four new patterns have enriched Borgo Santandrea’s famed tailor-made collection of hand-painted blue-and-white floor tiles. The furniture in the new rooms sees a mix of unique vintage pieces sourced from around the world, and modern recreations of traditional styles by acclaimed Italian houses such as Molteni&C, Tosconova, Lisar, and Venicem.

Under the culinary direction of Executive Chef, Crescenzo Scotti, June 2023 will see the opening of the Marinella Beach Club. Borgo Santandrea is one of the few hotels on the Amalfi Coast to have its own private pebble beach and dedicated jetty, and the Marinella Beach Club is set to become a firm fan favourite this season. It will offer aperitifs with crudi, bubbles, and signature drinks, as well as evenings with live music by moonlight. Also taking advantage of the prime location on the beach will be the iconic La Libreria restaurant, which will transform into La Libreria Mare, continuing to tell the story of local flavours through a selection of fresh, seasonal ingredients. In addition to the traditional tasting menu, à la carte will also be available for the very first time.

Located next to the beach bar – an ancient building used as a boathouse by fishermen in the 19th century – guests will discover the hotel’s brand-new boutique, a treasure trove where ceramic products made by celebrated local artisans, Marco Fusco, Lucio Liguori and Claudio Pulicati can be purchased, as well as delightful souvenirs. There will also be a new art installation on the wall of the bar by ceramicist, Lucio Liguori. Small tuna fish will float on the façade, in a harmonious and hypnotic dance among the rosemary plants. The installation, once again, is a tribute to the historical heritage of the Amalfi Coast.
