Passalacqua

Standing above the village of Moltrasio, leading all the way down to the lake’s shore, Passalacqua is an extraordinary private villa transformed into an incredible 24-suite hotel opening its doors to guests in June 2022. The remarkable mansion has played host to some of the world’s most brilliant minds in music, literature, art and politics from Napoleon Bonaparte to Bellini to Winston Churchill. Built on land originally owned by Pope Innocent XI, Villa Passalacqua was constructed in the 18th Century by Count Andrea Lucini Passalacqua, who worked with architect Felice Soave and designer Giocondo Albertolli to bring his vision of making one of the largest and most spectacular villas on Lake Como come to life. Now, Passalacqua has become the latest passion project for one of Italy’s most well-known hotelier families – Paolo, Antonella and Valentina De Santis. Sister property to the lake’s Grand Hotel Tremezzo – one of the world’s most iconic hotels – it will offer total privacy and magnificence.

Every single aspect is hand chosen and designed; no suite is the same; frescos have been meticulously restored and secret bars created. The majestic terraced gardens which overlook Lake Como are simply extraordinary with private hideaways and enchanting fountains. They are full of centuries old trees considered some of the most historic, beautiful and well-maintained in all of Italy. The suites will be set within the main historic villa, the Pus Palaz ancient stables and Casa al Lago located right on the lake, and include the largest suite on Lake Como with a double height balustraded music room where Bellini used to play his piano. The bathrooms are extraordinary with sheets of marble personally chosen one by one from caves in Verona; from the Breccia Pontificia also used in The Vatican to the Quatre Saisons that looks more like art than stone. The property will feature a romantic rose garden, a vegetable garden and an antique orchard, stunning swimming pool and lakeside tennis court plus of course a private dock on the lake with hotel vintage boats to sail the lake waters in style. Guests will also benefit from an open air gym in the olive grove, spa treatments in the fruit garden, yoga offered every morning at sunrise and a cinema under the stars. Relaxed dining spaces will be in formal gardens offering a less is more approach to Italian home cooked dishes. Passalacqua is a place of wonder created from the heart, by a family that has an ambition to give life to a new Lake Como icon that honours the past but is relevant for the centuries ahead.

There are 24 rooms and suites, including in the original tower – where details dating back to 1658 have been carefully preserved – the stables, and beside the walled orchard.

Situated a stone’s throw from the lively Adriatic coast, guests can enjoy access to the hotel’s private Calderisi Beach. The hotel’s restaurant, La Corte, serves a sophisticated take on traditional Puglian cuisine, while intimate olive oil and wine tastings, pizza cooking classes and complimentary yoga in the olive groves are also on offer. On 1st October 2020, the Buxton Crescent hotel opened its doors following an extensive refurbishment of one of England’s most significant Georgian architectural buildings. This is the first UK property from the Ensana Hotels brand, which is a custodian of European thermal spas utilising powerful natural resources. The hotel opening will revive the wellness traditions of this historic Spa town.

Thanks to The Fifth Duke of Devonshire, who developed the town with grand architecture, the 19th century was a golden age for Buxton when ‘taking the waters’ was a fashionable pastime for notable high-society visitors. Now, guests can experience the therapeutic qualities of the water for themselves as water wellness is at the forefront of Buxton Crescent’s spa offering. The hotel is home to three pools – the Thermal Pool which is a fully refurbished Victorian pool boasting the unique feature of having Buxton mineral rich water flowing into it, which is heated and left chemically untreated; a relaxation pool with an atmospheric dark ceiling pierced with shafts of light and an impressive indoor-outdoor rooftop pool. The Newt In Somerset

Celebrating all things Somerset, The Newt in Somerset is a newly-restored historic country estate near Bruton. In May 2019, the estate opened its beautifully cultivated gardens, a cyder press, restaurants, farm and house and garden shops to the public. A 23-room hotel and spa will open to guests on August 29, 2019. With a focus on all things local to celebrate the history and heritage of Somerset, the historic estate and gardens have been lovingly transformed by Karen Roos, the owner of the award-winning hotel and gardens, Babylonstoren, in South Africa’s Franschhoek valley. With a focus on locality and sustainability, everything stems from a deep respect for the land, its animals and its environment, as well as a passion for horticulture and agriculture. Capturing the essence of a Georgian country home and historical gardens, the hotel is set within a Grade II*-listed building, and Stable Yard. The hotel includes a world-class spa with indoor/outdoor swimming pool, gym, bar, restaurants and 23 bedrooms and suites. The gardens at The Newt in Somerset take centre stage, with acres of formal gardens designed by renowned Italo-French architect Patrice Taravella and cared for by an expert gardening team. Throughout the hotel and gardens, the past is brought to life or reimagined by offsetting heritage elements with contemporary design, styling and architecture. Some structures, like the Parabola and main house, are original and still intact after centuries. Other buildings, such as the Threshing Barn and Spa, are based on traditional agricultural structures; while spaces such as the glass-walled Garden Café are of modern design, aiming to fit organically within the landscape. The Newt in Somerset celebrates every aspect of the apple, from pruning and training saplings, to harvesting, pressing and the final stage: cyder making. Guests can sip freshly pressed 100% juice, with no added sugar or water or enjoy a cyder tasting experience with the Estate’s Cellar Master. With local produce being a key focus of the estate the hotel guests can enjoy seasonal dishes at the various dining offerings. The Botanical Rooms, inspired by Georgian dining, focuses on small sharing plates and offers a menu largely sourced from the Estate and its neighbours. Horns and Pigtails in the original vaulted cellar of the house, focuses on communal dining, and will host wine tasting evenings, special events and private Georgian feasts with menus are inspired by Georgian documents found in the house.

Everything is in tune with the seasons and what the earth is willing to offer. The Domaine is located in Massignac in the area of Charente, close to Cognac and the porcelain capital of Limoges.  The area is famous as a lake region with rich flora and fauna and nature is at the very core of Domaine des Etangs. Cognac is situated on the river Charente, on one of the pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela. The town gives its name to one of the world’s best-known types of Brandy – a unique spirit in that it is double-distilled. This process can be viewed in one of the many “Grande Marque” Cognac houses which all have visitor centres. Most central in the town are Hennessy, Martell, Otard, Camus and Remy Martin. Lopud 1483

UK & Europe

Lopud 1483 is located on the northern tip of Lopud, Dubrovnik, in a Franciscan monastery that has been overlooking the island for centuries. The property has been lovingly restored over the past 20 years by Creative Director Francesca Thyssen-Bornemisza and her family. She worked with the Arhitektri studio in Zagreb to ensure that every aspect was carefully designed in order to preserve the incredible history of the building. Lopud 1483 is available on an exclusive use basis from May to October. The 13 original cells of the 5,000 square meter monastery have been transformed into five exquisite suites, with wooden ceilings, windows and floors and views onto the sea or medicinal garden. Each room features a unique combination of renaissance furniture, from the Thyssen-Bornemisza collection as well as bespoke new pieces by Italian designer Paola Lenti and contemporary art from the TBA21 collection. Intimate meals can be enjoyed outside or in the Old Kitchen – a charming space with an open fire and functional bread oven, used to make delicious fresh pizzas today, while guests can indulge with cocktails and canapes on the Sunset Terrace, located on the top of the fortress, offering exceptional views of Lopud and The Elaphiti Islands. Wellness offerings include locally inspired spa treatments, Alchemy Bars, in-house meditation experts and visiting practitioners can be arranged upon request. This undiscovered island sanctuary has been designed as a place where history, art and botanical exploration ignite the senses. The property is also home to a Sacred Garden, complete with nine stations designed for meditation and contemplation, a traditional Franciscan Pharmacy.

Kalesma Mykonos

UK & Europe

Perowne International is proud to introduce Kalesma, a brand new, luxury boutique hotel and bold design statement in Europe’s hottest summer destination. The property, designed in the style of a traditional Mykonian village, is set on the hillside overlooking Ornos Bay, just a short walk from the beach and 3km from Mykonos town. Uniquely positioned to benefit from both sunrise and sunset, the views of the Aegean Sea are spectacular and are best enjoyed from restaurant and social hub, Pere Ubu, where Greek cuisine is reimagined and elegant dishes highlight local produce in a sophisticated setting. The Sunset Lounge, Aloni, is the ideal place to watch the sun sink below the horizon, glass in hand.

Kalesma is the only hotel on the island where all accommodation comes with a heated private pool, terrace and unobstructed ocean view. Each of the 25 suites can accommodate three adults or two adults and two children whilst the two villas offer two and three bedroom options, ensuring that larger groups are also catered for, both with their own fitness room, villa manager and private chef upon request. These slick, minimalist spaces have been created by Greek design company K-studio, also responsible for London’s high-end Greek restaurant, OPSO. Traditional Cycladic architecture combines with contemporary design and local elements such as white-washed walls, bougainvillea and a neutral colour palette. Interiors are by Vangelis Bonios, behind Kalesma’s sister restaurants Athenian hotspots Pere, Ubu and Sea Spice. Bonios’ style is sophisticated and modern yet timeless, utilising pure and tactile materials. His approach prioritises comfort and attention to detail

Kalesma allows guests to unlock the secrets that Mykonos has to offer by showcasing the local culture and philosophy of the surrounding area. Explore the island’s hidden corners including local eateries, exclusive boutiques and ancient churches. Besides this, our concierge can arrange access to the hottest beach clubs or take you to the most secluded stretches of white sand. Private yacht charters and helicopter transfers are available on request.

Domaine des Etangs

UK & Europe

Domaine des Etangs offers a truly unique experience in the heart of one of the most beautiful areas of rural France. Set over 1,000 hectares of protected nature-filled countryside comprising forest, grassland and lakes, Domaine des Etangs is a converted private home that has been recently transformed into a unique hotel.  At the heart of the property lies a fully renovated 13th century château, interior designed by Isabelle Stanislas – designer to to the French president Emmanuel Macron. Numerous pieces of contemporary art fill the property from Matisse to Picasso.  The chateau is surrounded by landscaped gardens and lakes, filled with art installations and sculptures including those by Richard Long and Irina Rasquinet. There are six farmhouse cottages, a longère, a vegetable garden, Gallo-Roman baths, two swimming pools, a floating tennis court and a gastronomic restaurant plus fumoir. There is also an art gallery featuring works by Herman de Vries, Sheila Hicks Michael, Yves Klein Yayoi, Giuseppe Penone and Hiroshi Sugimoto Lee. The expert spa, Moulin des Etangs is located in a converted water mill which is still in use today. Dining is completely bespoke for each guest and experiences range from private woodland picnics complete with blankets, scattered lanterns and a fire pit, romantic candlelight-dinners in the heart of a wine cellar brimming with vintage bottles or supper in the gastronomic restaurant Dyades. The team works with local producers to reduce the journey from earth to table, exploring the rich terroir of the Limousin region. The crayfish come from the Moulde river, which winds through the 1,000 hectares of woodland and ponds at the Domaine; the fruit comes from the farm, the vegetables from the kitchen garden. Bordeaux and its surrounding vineyards are just a 1.5 hour drive away.
