VICO MILANO

UK & Europe

The Baccheschi-Berti family behind the beautiful Castello di Vicarello, a restored 12th Century castle in the rolling Tuscan hills, is expanding its vision across Italy with the launch of Vico Milan in March 2021 – a seven-bedroom guesthouse in the country’s most design and fashion-forward city, Milan. The family’s connection with Milan is deep-rooted, having lived and worked there for many years.  The site of Vico Milan was previously the mother’s showroom from her days as a fashion designer for her brand Bungai, prior to which it was a factory designing and producing legendary Legnano racing bikes. Positioned in one of the city’s most sought-after locations, Corso Genova 11, the boutique property is just a short walk to the Duomo and the fashionable district of Via Tortona, home to designer showrooms and a Milan Fashion Week hotspot. Drawing inspiration from the building’s history and the family’s strong design background, the project is being led by Neri Baccheschi-Berti with a modern Moroccan influence. The concept of Vico Milan centres around being a stylish home-from-home; a place to work, meet and relax, so social spaces are a focus. Stand-out features will include a beautiful green marble bar which will serve cocktails and organic wine from the family-owned vineyard in Tuscany and there will be a Library and Sitting Room for guests and locals alike to mingle.

Buxton Crescent - Buxton, Peak District

Buxton Crescent

UK & Europe

On 1st October 2020, the Buxton Crescent hotel opened its doors following an extensive refurbishment of one of England’s most significant Georgian architectural buildings. This is the first UK property from the Ensana Hotels brand, which is a custodian of European thermal spas utilising powerful natural resources. The hotel opening will revive the wellness traditions of this historic Spa town.

Thanks to The Fifth Duke of Devonshire, who developed the town with grand architecture, the 19th century was a golden age for Buxton when ‘taking the waters’ was a fashionable pastime for notable high-society visitors. Now, guests can experience the therapeutic qualities of the water for themselves as water wellness is at the forefront of Buxton Crescent’s spa offering. The hotel is home to three pools – the Thermal Pool which is a fully refurbished Victorian pool boasting the unique feature of having Buxton mineral rich water flowing into it, which is heated and left chemically untreated; a relaxation pool with an atmospheric dark ceiling pierced with shafts of light and an impressive indoor-outdoor rooftop pool. Signature spa treatments include the Thermal Mud Pack using mineral rich mud sourced from Heviz in Hungary and the Co2 Infusion Mineral Bath. The spa is home to eight treatment rooms, one of which has been custom built for dual treatments. A number of the treatment rooms feature original stained-glass windows.

High up on the edge of The Peak District National Park, Buxton is a gateway to this area of outstanding natural beauty, contrasting rolling farmland, forests and deep valleys with high stony plateaus. The hotel is putting Buxton, a place with a thriving cultural scene, incredible architecture and a hidden historical gem of the UK, firmly back onto the tourist map. The property comprises 81 rooms and suites. Following a multi-million-pound renovation and thanks to significant support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and other stakeholders, it blends the outstanding history of the 18th century exterior and features reminiscent of this era, such as chandeliers, painted ceilings and stained-glass windows complimented with stylish furniture and modern comforts. The rooms are steeped in more than 200 years history, with some of the suites boasting four-poster beds, freestanding baths and views through wooden sash windows over the slate roofs of the historic town.

Launched in 2019, Ensana is the leading health spa brand in Europe. The group currently manages 26 spa hotels across Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and the UK and has a wide collection of spa hotels located in Europe’s most historic spa towns – renowned for their natural healing resources and restorative properties. Ensana has developed a unique innovative integrative health concept, which combines healing natural resources with medical expertise and modern diagnostic methods, to help guests achieve their personal health goals. The group is committed to improving the health and wellbeing of all its guests by providing a diverse range of spas to suit every budget.

Celebrating all things Somerset, The Newt in Somerset is a newly-restored historic country estate near Bruton. In May 2019, the estate opened its beautifully cultivated gardens, a cyder press, restaurants, farm and house and garden shops to the public. A 23-room hotel and spa will open to guests on August 29, 2019. With a focus on all things local to celebrate the history and heritage of Somerset, the historic estate and gardens have been lovingly transformed by Karen Roos, the owner of the award-winning hotel and gardens, Babylonstoren, in South Africa’s Franschhoek valley. With a focus on locality and sustainability, everything stems from a deep respect for the land, its animals and its environment, as well as a passion for horticulture and agriculture. Capturing the essence of a Georgian country home and historical gardens, the hotel is set within a Grade II*-listed building, and Stable Yard. The hotel includes a world-class spa with indoor/outdoor swimming pool, gym, bar, restaurants and 23 bedrooms and suites. The gardens at The Newt in Somerset take centre stage, with acres of formal gardens designed by renowned Italo-French architect Patrice Taravella and cared for by an expert gardening team. Some structures, like the Parabola and main house, are original and still intact after centuries. Other buildings, such as the Threshing Barn and Spa, are based on traditional agricultural structures; while spaces such as the glass-walled Garden Café are of modern design, aiming to fit organically within the landscape. The Newt in Somerset celebrates every aspect of the apple, from pruning and training saplings, to harvesting, pressing and the final stage: cyder making. Guests can sip freshly pressed 100% juice, with no added sugar or water or enjoy a cyder tasting experience with the Estate’s Cellar Master. With local produce being a key focus of the estate the hotel guests can enjoy seasonal dishes at the various dining offerings. The Botanical Rooms, inspired by Georgian dining, focuses on small sharing plates and offers a menu largely sourced from the Estate and its neighbours. Set over 1,000 hectares of protected nature-filled countryside comprising forest, grassland and lakes, Domaine des Etangs is a converted private home that has been recently transformed into a unique hotel.  At the heart of the property lies a fully renovated 13th century château, interior designed by Isabelle Stanislas – designer to to the French president Emmanuel Macron. Numerous pieces of contemporary art fill the property from Matisse to Picasso.  The chateau is surrounded by landscaped gardens and lakes, filled with art installations and sculptures including those by Richard Long and Irina Rasquinet. There is also an art gallery featuring works by Herman de Vries, Sheila Hicks Michael, Yves Klein Yayoi, Giuseppe Penone and Hiroshi Sugimoto Lee. The expert spa, Moulin des Etangs is located in a converted water mill which is still in use today. The team works with local producers to reduce the journey from earth to table, exploring the rich terroir of the Limousin region. The crayfish come from the Moulde river, which winds through the 1,000 hectares of woodland and ponds at the Domaine; the fruit comes from the farm, the vegetables from the kitchen garden. Everything is in tune with the seasons and what the earth is willing to offer. The Domaine is located in Massignac in the area of Charente, close to Cognac and the porcelain capital of Limoges.  The area is famous as a lake region with rich flora and fauna and nature is at the very core of Domaine des Etangs. Cognac is situated on the river Charente, on one of the pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela. The town gives its name to one of the world’s best-known types of Brandy – a unique spirit in that it is double-distilled. This process can be viewed in one of the many “Grande Marque” Cognac houses which all have visitor centres. Most central in the town are Hennessy, Martell, Otard, Camus and Remy Martin. This winter season the hotel is evolving its concept from being a 29-room hotel to a 16-suite private house hotel. The property has gourmet cuisine and genuine Austrian hospitality plus quirky features like a ski butler, bath butler, and one of the finest selections of Austrian Schnapps in the Alps! Lech in Austria’s Arlberg Region is renowned for its skiing with 170 miles of trails available to skiiers.
