WILDLAND TO LAUNCH HOPE IN MAY 2026

Part of WildLand - Europe’s largest conservation project - Hope is a hotel and exclusive use property set within the vast, coastal landscape of Sutherland in the north of Scotland

December 12thScotland

Opening May 2026 on Scotland’s northern coast, Hope is the hotel and exclusive use property by WildLand – set within the vast, coastal landscape of Sutherland, where nature is being carefully restored and protected for the long term.  More than a place to stay, Hope introduces a new kind of Highland hospitality. Immersive, conservation-led, and profoundly connected to nature.

Hope brings new life to a historic hunting lodge, now redesigned as an intimate hotel and exclusive-use retreat with a collection of restored cottages and, at its heart, a communal gathering point known as the Clachan. From the restored lodge, Hope offers an inclusive stay where every element is curated, from daily guided adventures and wellness rituals to food, drinks, facilities and equipment. Guests are invited to immerse themselves completely, to embrace the changing seasons and terrain, and to connect with the community who live and work here – all guided by a deep respect for the historical, cultural, and environmental context of the Scottish Highlands.

DESIGN: AN ELEMENTAL APPROACH TO HIGHLAND INTERIORS

Built in the 1870s as a Highland shooting lodge, Hope has been sensitively restored and brought to life by interior designers Cecile & Boyd. Drawing on decades of experience in immersive, nature-based spaces, they have merged thoughtful restoration with contemporary creativity. Materials are honest and grounded. Georgian and Jacobean oak furniture, softened by time, sits alongside textiles like tweed, flax, oilskin and ripstop to bring weight and weather. Hope Lodge houses seven bedrooms, each named in Gaelic to reflect qualities of light, beauty, soul and freedom, and is complemented by An Cala: an architecturally striking two-bedroom cabin with private wood-fired hot tub set slightly apart in the forest, structured in glass, wood and copper. Designed for families or friends, An Cala offers both connection and privacy, with its own totally distinct character. Across Hope, interiors respond to the guest journey, creating intentional spaces for rest, renewal and connection, while purposefully blurring the boundary between indoors and out. The result is an atmosphere that is warm, open and uncontrived – a place that feels both lived-in and quietly revelatory whether being used as a hotel or exclusive-use home and where every detail is rooted in land, story, and soul and where nature, not man, sits at the heart of the narrative.

ACTIVITIES: RITUALS OF LAND, SEA AND STILLNESS

Hope’s inclusive activity programme invites guests to experience the Highlands as a living, regenerating landscape.  Not just to witness it, but to walk, paddle, plant and forage within it. Led by a dedicated team of field guides and conservationists, each day’s rituals are built around the elements: water, earth and fire. Guests can paddleboard along the northern coast, swim beneath hidden waterfalls, take boat rides to Rabbit Island, or cast for trout with one of WildLand’s ghillies. There are sound bath sessions, fire-cooked lunches in remote bothies on the shores of Loch Hope, and chef-led foraging walks where wild ingredients become part of the next meal. Conservation sessions and guided tree planting offer deeper connection to the land’s ongoing renewal, while those who prefer to roam freely can set out with everything they need, from boots to boats all provided. At the centre of it all is the Clachan, where plans are made and days begin with Hope’s team of expert field guides. Every detail is covered, shaped by the season and landscape. Here, ritual replaces routine, and time is marked not by schedule, but by light, weather and place.

HOW: Rates at Hope start from £1,100 per room, per night on an inclusive basis including all meals, house drinks, multiple guided daily experiences (such as chef-led foraging walks, restoration walks, waterfall hikes, guided cold water plunging, sound bathing, stargazing and more), as well as access to an expertly curated range of outdoor equipment; every detail has been considered and included as part of the experience.

Rates for the cottages start from £425 on a self-catered basis. www.wildland.scot

SIBBJÄNS ARRIVES ON GOTLAND, SWEDEN

A REGENERATIVE FARM STAY SHAPED BY SEASONS, FRIENDSHIP AND CRAFTSMANSHIP

Sweden

Sibbjäns began quietly, the combined dream of Jonas Nordlander and Sanna Rönn, who with close friends and many meaningful couples Pontus and Kina Zeidler share a life between Stockholm and Gotland. Over the past four years, they have steadily transformed this former horse farm into a regenerative stay that feels singular to anywhere else in Scandinavia.

After a soft opening in 2025 for friends and family, the farm stay now enters 2026 as its first full season, opening more intentionally to a like-minded global community drawn to nature, food, and thoughtful design.

A PLACE TO REST

22 individually designed rooms sit across the Hotel and ‘The Bunkhouse,’ each named after important women in the family and among their friends. Adorned with classic Scandi touches of sheepskin throws, limewashed walls, soft palettes, and contemporary art, the spaces are designed for comfort.

Buildings are framed by wildflowers and constructed using traditional methods, much of the work completed by hand, with local craftsmanship central to the process. Architect Maja Berg has been a key contributor, working alongside Erik Larsson, a Master of Gotlandic Craft Heritage, who built some of the original buildings himself and continues to pass on traditional building knowledge to the next generation.

THE KITCHEN FOLLOWS THE FARM

At the heart of Sibbjäns is a working farm home to hens, Mangalitza pigs, horses, and sheep, with agriculture guiding both the kitchen and the guest experience.

In the gardens, lead gardener and local Karin Winarve brings a quiet hand to what thrives here across meadows, vegetable beds, and fruit-growing plots. Produce is grown on-site and harvested seasonally, forming the backbone of a true farm-to-table approach—one that pauses entirely during the winter months when the land rests.

EXPERIENCES & ‘VIKING WELLNESS’

New for the 2026 season, wellbeing at Sibbjäns is restorative rather than prescriptive. Inspired by Nordic traditions and the physicality of outdoor life, the evolving wellness offering includes:

  • A hand-built yoga barn

  • A wood-fired sauna

  • An outdoor gym

  • Recreational spaces

  • The beginnings of what will become one of the world’s most beautiful tennis courts.

The surrounding landscape invites guests to engage with nature on its own terms, from cycling or horse riding across open farmland to kitesurfing along Gotland’s windswept coastline (widely regarded as one of the finest spots in Europe for the sport). This is ‘Viking wellness’ in spirit—elemental, grounding, and quietly transformative.

SWEDEN’S ‘SUNSHINE ISLAND’

Gotland is Sweden’s sunniest destination, known for its distinctive light, limestone landscapes, and strong ‘right to roam’ ethos. Open from Easter through to Christmas and closed entirely during the dark winter months, Sibbjäns follows the natural calendar rather than resisting it.

Reaching it is part of the journey:

  • A short flight from Stockholm to the island’s capital of Visby, followed by a drive across the island.

  • A ferry crossing that reinforces the sense of arrival somewhere distinct and deliberately unhurried.

  • For those preferring a more direct approach, arrival by helicopter is also possible.

At its core, Sibbjäns remains a place for friends old and new built slowly, grounded in nature, and designed to endure.
