University Arms, Cambridge is a landmark hotel located in the historic heart of the city, overlooking the iconic Parker’s Piece. First opened in 1834, the quintessentially English hotel reopened after a two year, £80m transformation by legendary classical architect, John Simpson and interior designer of the moment, Martin Brudnizki. The literary and academic spirit of Cambridge is one of its defining characteristics of the new hotel, which is now home to 192 beautiful and ‘playfully’ designed rooms and suites, each complete with private library curated by Heywood Hill. The hotel also boasts a library, event space, underground valet car park. gym as well as a destination bar and restaurant, Parker’s Tavern. Headed up by chef Tristan Welch, Parker’s Tavern is an English tavern serving locally sourced, seasonal food, with every dish designed to be a whimsical re-imagining of a British classic, sourced from field, fen and England’s seas. It mirrors the communal dining halls synonymous with Cambridge Colleges and a contemporary selection of artwork provides juxtaposition to tradition with injections of colour, introducing warmth and fun to the space.
