TEARDROP HOTELS TO LAUNCH NEW TEA BUNGALOWS THROUGHOUT SRI LANKA’S HILL COUNTRY AND NEW BEACHFRONT HOTEL ON THE WEST COAST

July 25thSRI LANKA

Ensuring the very best of Sri Lanka is within reach of discerning travellers has become even more of a reality with the addition of five former tea planters’ houses from Teardrop Hotels, opening in 2017 and 2018.

Camellia Hills, Goatfell, Pekoe House and Nine Skies are rarely found vintage managers’ bungalows strategically located along the tea country route, near Hatton, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Ella, within Sri Lanka’s working tea plantations. Located in exciting locations in Sri Lanka’s tea country, each bungalow’s location is so distinct, guests can hop between bungalows and immerse themselves in fascinating locale, visiting the local tea factories and observing the local way of life. These tea country openings are set to complement a beachside 10-room opening, Kumu Beach, and sister hotels The Wallawwa in Colombo and Fort Bazaar near Galle Fort, giving visitors the ultimate city, cultural and coastal itinerary of Sri Lanka.

Opening in July 2017, Camellia Hills is a newly built bungalow with 5-ensuite bedrooms, a dining room and two living rooms, with open terraces to admire the vista. For guests wanting to relax and unwind, the swimming pool and ambalama are located in the front garden, surrounded by tea fields, that takes advantage of the panorama.

Meanwhile, opening in November 2017, Goatfell is located on a working tea estate, just 25 minutes from Nuwara Eliya, in the heart of Sri Lanka’s magnificent hill country. Goatfell consists of 4 ensuite bedrooms in the main house and 2 luxurious stand-alone chalets, with living and dining rooms and a swimming pool. With a focus on outstanding cuisine and efficient yet unobtrusive service, guests will immediately feel at home whilst being able to enjoy the fresh air and stunning views from the bungalow’s beautifully manicured gardens.

Just a few minutes along the tea lined estate roads from Demodera Railway Station near Ella, stands Nine Skies, a majestic former tea planter’s bungalow turned 6-bedroom luxury hotel. Set within several acres of private gardens are the hotel’s croquet lawn, swimming pool and sun deck, with wonderful views across the valley to the working tea factory and famous Demodera loop. The bungalow’s name is thanks to the nine-arch viaduct, through which it is possible to see ‘nine skies’ when looking up through the arches. Guests will arrive via the Yakada Yakada or the ‘Iron Devil’ – the steam train which has graced the mountains of Sri Lanka since the 1800s, transporting tea and people between Colombo and the hill stations.

The final tea estate due to open in 2018 is Pekoe House, located within the tropical surrounds of Kandy. Within reach (and view) of the Knuckles Mountain Range, Pekoe House will have 6 double bedrooms, a swimming pool, croquet lawn, and living/dining space, as well as excellent food. Activities will include tea factory tours and treks up Hunas mountain.

In August 2017, Teardrop Hotels is also set to launch a new beachfront hotel in west coast Balapitiya. Elevated from Balapitiya’s boulder-scattered beach, Kumu Beach is a stylish 10-bedroom boutique hotel with exceptional restaurant, bar, swimming pool and garden. The hotel has four super spacious Ocean View Suites, four Ocean View Bedrooms and two Kumu Bedrooms, and all are stylish private spaces with TVs, minibars and ensuite bathrooms with showers. All rooms have sea views and some also have either a private balcony or a garden terrace. Guests feast on international cuisine that champions seafood and local produce, and dine from alfresco tables on the outdoor deck, or indoors, in the bar.
