The 30,000 square-ft Jiva Grande Spa is a key highlight, hidden under a rainforest canopy where guests can unwind listening to the sounds of the jungle at the Buddha Garden and vast outdoor pool. The design and location of this unique new property make it as invigorating as it is relaxing. Pair this restorative break with the benefits of the sea at Taj Bekal, an exceptional beach resort tucked away in Northern Kerala and one of India’s best kept secrets. All the rooms are inspired by Kettuvallam house boats with Balinese influences. Taj Bekhal is also home to a Jiva Grande Spa, spread over 165,000 sq feet. The Jiva Spa menu at Taj Bekal features signature experiences, Ayurveda programmes, Indian therapies, Indian aromatherapy, scrubs and wraps, and beauty rituals rooted in the rich and ancient wellness traditions of India. Key mindfulness treatments include the Ajapa Japa, a Hindu concept translating to conscious awareness of a mantra. Japa is a Sanskrit word, meaning “to repeat or remember,” and ajapa japa translates as “realisation and experience of a mantra. Ajapa Japa can be attained by anyone who engages in the practice of chanting or reciting mantras, through a progressive practice of learning, memorising and chanting a mantra until the words are no longer merely spoken, but deeply realised. The 50-minute therapeutic session at the Jiva Spa revolves around the spontaneous repetition of a mantra and brings guests to an awareness of their breathing process. The chanting of the mantra soothes the body and mind while bringing a deep sense of calmness, leaving them feeling enriched and refreshed. Antar Mouna is 40-minute session including meditation to focus and find the stillness associated with inner silence. Through meditation, guests will focus on what their mind is thinking about, its reaction to the thoughts and the accompanying imagery which forms from the subconscious. Hirdayakasha Dharana is 50-minute practice which makes guests aware of emotions and helps them express and communicate them. Combined with Trataka (candle flame gazing), this technique is known to relieve mental tension, anxiety and in some cases even depression. This session encourages and guides guests to be aware of their heart and the emotions attached to it.
